Sympathy For the Tycoon Sector

This past week I visited the Mirant Powerplant off 23rd Street. It was definitely an experience.

The workers had just ordered some tasty food as celebration for an accident free month. They had BBQ ribs, brisket, beans, and so much more. I wish I could remember the name of the place...BUCK FORTY! Yes, that place is good.

I was attending on behalf of my job. Since I'm the Development Director, I have to be there to accept the big checks and stuff. I take photos and schmooze with the help. (Incidentally, I'm surprised that my spellchecker didn't flag the word "schmooze." I had no idea that was part of current lexicon.)

Anyways...

My Sympathy for the Tycoon Sector is when I started really listening to these blue collar guys talk about how they're going to be losing their jobs and displaced out of the city b/c San Francisco wants to shut down ALL power plants in our County. It's a noble idea for sure. It's as noble as eliminating plastic bags from grocery stores, closing streets for 6 hours at a time, 4 days a year for a total of ONE FULL DAY worth of "healthy streets" time. While the rest of the 364 days of the year are filled with cars, big rigs, and other polluting shit. Frikkkin awesome! Thanks Mayor Newsom. Too bad you dropped out of the Governor's race.

BUT, in all honesty, it's probably good that Mayor Newsom put himself out on a limb like that. I'm sure there are people like you and I who would be scared shitless if our job was a national politician.

Ewww...I think I just quivered a little.
