A Nation at War

This happened today.

This was President Obama's response.

We are truly a nation at war. Who we're at war with is up for debate based on your certain point of view, but we can all agree that we're "at war."

For example...we're at war with those who hate what we stand for, those who denounce the "western culture" and all of its excesses. There are also those from within. These are afflicted and isolated individuals who live in our vast and spacious American towns and cities. There are also those which are unseen, those cryptic and invisible market forces which wield so much power over us. We don't know who's running them (the illuminati, perhaps?), but we do know that we're against them. In fact, we're at war with them.

BUT, we have our soldiers in there giving them hell.

For example...(in reverse order)....we have anonymous hackers who are taking down bank websites, releasing people's personal information online, and running amok on the internets shaping public opinion through blogs and memes. We also have local police forces patrolling our purple mountains majesty, above the fruited plains, looking for loners and recluses. They're building relationships with community members and hoping to catch suspicious looking militia men who may be plotting to blow up the nearest federal building. Finally, we have our boys out there fighting the foreigners, securing our borders, and taking the fight to the terrorists. They're setting up roadblocks and training troops. These youngsters have the toughest job in the world, being shot at while on duty and feeling traumatized while on leave.

So there you go. We're all set. Americans should feel safe, right? Wrong.

I am saddened that people have died today, especially young children, in the name of war. Is it inevitable though? I don't know anymore.
